6 Steps to Feeling Like Yourself Again After Divorce

Because she’s still in there — and today we’re going to find her again.

Divorce has a way of shaking everything you thought you knew about yourself. One day you’re a functioning human with routines, dreams, and a favorite pair of jeans… and the next you’re staring into your fridge — wearing the same leggings for the third day in a row — wondering when “real life” plans on returning.

If you’ve ever had one of those moments where you catch your reflection and think,
“Who am I right now?”,
girl… you are SO not alone.

Here’s what I want you to take in with your whole heart:

You didn’t lose yourself.
She just got buried under exhaustion, responsibility, and heartbreak — and today, we’re digging her out.

This is your guide — six powerful steps that thousands of women (including me!) have used to find their spark again.

Let’s breathe… and begin.

STEP 1: Remember Who You Were Before Life Got Loud

After my second divorce, I had a moment — the kind that hits you right in the solar plexus. I was sitting on the floor of my closet (because that’s where we go to fall apart, apparently), and I realized I couldn’t name the last thing I did just for me.

Not for the kids.
Not for the house.
Not to keep the peace.
Just… me.

And that’s when it clicked:

I hadn’t lost myself.
I’d just stopped listening to her.

So let me ask you:

  • What did you love before life demanded so much of you?

  • What dreams did you put aside to keep someone else comfortable?

  • Which version of you have you been missing?

Take a second. Say her name in your mind.
She’s still here.

STEP 2: Feel Every Messy Emotion (Without Judgment!)

Let’s rewrite a myth right now: healing is not tidy.

It does not look like cozy journaling nights with soft candles and perfect handwriting.

Healing looks like:

  • crying in your car in the Target parking lot

  • getting angry at a song

  • feeling sad, then fine, then sad again — all in an afternoon

  • staring at the ceiling wondering what comes next

You’re not dramatic.
You’re not “too much.”
You’re not failing.

You’re processing a life you’re no longer living.

And emotions?
They don’t need approval. They need space.

If anger shows up — good.
If relief shows up — also good.
If guilt shows up — we’ll work through it.

Feel it all. Judge none of it.

This Is Where My Book Can Support You Deeply

If this part of the journey — the emotional unraveling, the grief, the identity shift — hits home, my upcoming book was written straight from my heart to yours:

➡️ How to Navigate Heartache, Healing, and Love After Divorce
Pre-order now • Releases January 6, 2026

Inside it, I take you deeper into these messy emotional layers — and show you how to move through them with compassion, courage, and clarity.

It’s the guide I wish I had.
And the one I wrote so you never have to heal alone.

STEP 3: Rebuild Your Daily Rhythm

When divorce hits, your routine gets thrown out of orbit.
Suddenly “day” and “night” feel interchangeable, meals are optional, and sleep? She’s on her own schedule.

But here’s the truth:

✨ Your nervous system LOVES rhythm.
✨ Your heart needs predictability.
✨ Your healing thrives in small routines.

And I mean small.

For me?
It started with one tiny habit: opening my blinds every morning.
That’s it.
But it told my brain:
“Hey — we’re still here. Mornings still matter.”

Try:

  • morning coffee outside

  • a 5-minute stretch

  • a nightly wind-down playlist

  • journaling one sentence

  • one drawer of decluttering

Tiny rituals.
Huge impact.

STEP 4: Do One Thing Each Day That Makes You Proud

Not everything.
Not a whole transformation.

Just one proud moment every day — one action that reminds you:

“I’m still here. I’m doing this.”

It might be:

  • washing your hair

  • calling a friend

  • drinking water

  • going for a walk

  • NOT texting your ex when you REALLY wanted to

Small wins stack.
Small wins create momentum.
Small wins rebuild your identity one brick at a time.

STEP 5: Let Yourself Dream Again

This is the step where everything shifts.

When you stop asking, “How do I survive this?”
And start asking, “What might come next for me?”

Dreaming doesn’t need to be grand — it just needs to be honest.

Maybe you’re dreaming of:

  • a vacation

  • a new hobby

  • a fresh haircut

  • a career change

  • a future relationship that actually feels GOOD

  • a home that reflects YOU

Dreams are tiny rebellions.
They’re how we reopen our hearts to possibility.
